Passenger traffic rose by 8.8% at the 24 airports managed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Lemnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) in the first four months of 2026, compared to 2025.
Specifically, according to the statistics, the total number of passengers (international and domestic passenger arrivals and departures) from January to April 2026 reached 1,547,291 passengers, compared to 1,422,156 passengers during the same period in 2025.
Positive trend for HCAA airports in April 2026
April 2026 saw a 4.7% increase in passenger traffic overall across all 24 HCAA airports. For example, Heraklion Airport, which served the most travelers in April, recorded a 4.9% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same month last year and handled 624,454 passengers, compared to 595,306 last year.
Increase at all 39 airports in the country
A 5.6% increase in passenger traffic was also recorded for the first four months of 2026 across all of the country’s airports that operate commercial flights (HCAA, Fraport, and AIA). Specifically, passenger traffic reached 14,590,036, compared to 13,811,216 passengers during the same period in 2025.
Regarding the number of aircraft movements (domestic and international arrivals and departures) from January to April 2026, across all 39 airports in the country—for which air traffic control is primarily managed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA)—there was a 5.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Specifically, a total of 123,146 flights were operated, compared to 116,883 flights last year.
