Festival tents: the line-up

Field Candy

Festival season is upon us and the latest tents on the market are as much about striking design as standing up to a British summer, writes Victoria Maw. Field Candy, founded by John Harris, offers high-spec, limited-edition A-frame tents doubling as "pieces of art". One tent passes for a giant slab of watermelon, another is adorned with Tord Boontje's whimsical illustration of a forest.

£495 for watermelon model, www.fieldcandy.com

Gigwam

Large groups and families will love this modular tipi that can be connected up to others using tunnels. The design cleverly eliminates a central pole, creating more sleeping Space inside. As the name suggests, it was designed with festival goers in mind, but it is proving a hit with children and this summer a "Kidwam" will be launched, scaled down for indoor as well as outdoor use.

From £129.99, www.gigwam.co.uk

Tentsile

For something a bit different, how about a portable treehouse? Tentsile's three-man Stingray tent was inspired by the structure of a spider's web. It takes 10 minutes to erect and is secured with heavy duty webbing that anchors to three points. Inside, each berth has separating straps so there is no chance of bumping into each other in the night. Rope ladder included.
