On the occasion of the PASOK conference, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who also serves as president of the Socialist International, sent a letter to PASOK President Nikos Androulakis, in which, in addition to wishing him a successful conference, he also refers to the political priorities on which their parties are focused.
The full text of the letter is as follows:
“Dear members of PASOK,
Dear Nikos,
As President of the Socialist International and on behalf of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), I would like to extend my warmest greetings to you on the occasion of your Congress.
PASOK is a party with an internationalist tradition and has played a significant historical role in the progressive movement in Europe and worldwide. As a valued member of the Socialist International, it has always contributed to efforts toward a more just, rules-based international society.
Dear Nikos,
we stand in solidarity with your struggle for the rule of law and a fair justice system.
Today, our parties must be at the forefront of the struggle to promote peace, international law, gender equality, as well as human and social rights.
The international environment is more complex than ever. I said “no to war” because we cannot support unilateral initiatives that violate the rules we sought to establish after the devastating consequences of two world wars. We must be consistent. For this reason, we have also taken a clear stance on Ukraine and Gaza.
It is of the utmost importance that we join forces and take action, because we need progressive parties in government. This is crucial for Europe, crucial for all continents. It is the only way to ensure the right to affordable housing for all citizens, as well as equal access to healthcare and education.
PASOK is a party that can make a difference and is a key partner in our joint effort.
I wish you a highly productive Congress and excellent results in all future elections.
Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón
President of the Socialist International
