"HOPE for Democracy – Maria Karistianou INDEPENDENT CITIZENS' MOVEMENT". This is the name of the new political party presented by Maria Karistianou at an event at the "Olympion" cinema in Thessaloniki, whose symbol is a dove and an olive branch.
"Today, Hope for Democracy is born. Today, society’s demand to not allow the degradation of our country is born. The healthy part of Greece has awakened and united," said Ms. Karistianou, presenting the key points of the Founding Declaration, which include the following:
-For citizens to experience change immediately and feel safe.
-Support for society, the family, and young people.
-Rebuilding the education system.
-Providing for the elderly, vulnerable groups, people with disabilities, and retirees by restoring their benefits.
-Rebuilding the National Health System.
-Politicians are servants of the people.
-Establishment of a true rule of law and separation of powers.
-Audit of all public contracts.
-Transparency in the operations of banks.
-Protection of primary residences.
-Support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
-Protection of labor rights.
-Formulation of a national development strategy.
-Independence of the media.
-Defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During the event, videos were shown featuring statements of support for Ms. Karistianou’s political initiative from expatriates in various countries, people from the agricultural sector, scientists, businesspeople, professionals, and young people. Among them was Harita Mandoles, the woman who has become a symbol of the Cypriot tragedy.
Outside the hall, a giant screen had been set up to broadcast the event, and there were also tables where citizens who arrived signed a petition for the creation of the new party.
The event was coordinated and hosted by journalist Thanasis Avgerinos and actress, producer, screenwriter, and activist Katerina Moutsatsou.
