The Union of Greek Shipowners hosted a luncheon today in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, at the Museum of Cycladic Art, who is visiting Greece accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence.
The luncheon was hosted by the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Traoulou, and members of the Association’s Board of Directors, representing the Greek shipping industry, the world’s strongest shipping industry, which has maintained close ties with the United Kingdom over the years.
Princess Anne’s presence further highlights the international prestige of the Greek shipping industry, as well as the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation between Greece and the United Kingdom, two great maritime nations with a shared maritime tradition, respect for freedom of navigation, and a steadfast commitment to seafarers.
During the luncheon, Hellenic Maritime Association President Melina Traoulou, welcoming HRH Princess Anne, emphasized, among other things:
“For generations, our peoples have traveled the same seas…expressing deep respect for those who dedicate their lives to the sea.”
The President of the Hellenic Shipowners’ Association also referred to Princess Anne’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian initiatives for those who serve at sea, expressing the Greek shipping community’s deep respect for her work and contributions.
Ms. Traoulou also highlighted the social dimension of Greek shipping, noting:
“The strength of Greek shipping is also measured by its contribution to society… to our homeland. Through our collective philanthropic work, we effectively stand by our fellow citizens in need, while continuing to support the younger generation and contribute to shaping a better, more humane future.”
