With extensive reference to housing policy, healthcare, the labor market, investments, and public transportation, Prime MinisterKyriakos Mitsotakis presented the government’s weekly report today, Sunday, via a post on Facebook.
Specifically, the Prime Minister announced that those who have already been approved for the “My Home II” program will be able to complete the process by the end of August, even if there are delays in contracts or property transfers.
As he noted, funding will be covered by national resources through the Hellenic Development Bank, so that “not a single opportunity is lost due to procedural delays.”
Atthe same time, he announced that the first eight DYPA properties in Paiania, Larissa, Pyrgos, and Kalamata, through the social compensation program, from which approximately 400 new apartments are expected to be created, of which about 130 will be made available to our vulnerable fellow citizens.
Mr. Mitsotakis also announced a social support program,“Personal Assistant,”which is being bolstered in anticipation of its expansion starting in June, with total funding of 55 million euros annually and an additional 5 million euros for supporting projects.
“The pilot phase of the program demonstrated in practice just how important this service is for people with disabilities and their families, both at home and in their daily social and professional lives. For many of our fellow citizens, the ‘Personal Assistant’ means greater autonomy, more freedom of movement, and more meaningful participation in society. And that is exactly what we are aiming for,” hewrites .
Strengthening the National Health System and tax relief for doctors
Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that 28 renovated emergency departments and 55 Health Centers have already been delivered , while he announced what he called the largest recruitment drive for permanent doctors in the history of the National Health System (ESY), with 1,131 positions filled in a single day.
He also made special mention of the taxation of on-call shifts, noting that National Health System doctors have seen an annual tax reduction averaging 7,000 euros.
At the same time, he announced a regulation to classify nurses and EKAV (National Ambulance Service) employees as working in hazardous and unhealthy conditions.
In his post, the Prime Minister also announced the extension for another year of the DYPA program, through which 500 paramedics were hired in hospitals. As he emphasized, the program helped reduce delays in patient transport while also providing jobs to the unemployed, including citizens over the age of 50.
Regarding the labor market, he also mentioned the extension of collective bargaining agreements in the Food and Confectionery sectors, which affect more than 400,000 workers. According to him, wages in tourism and the restaurant industry are increasing by up to nearly 20% above the minimum wage.
1,076 new buses and an upgrade to the Electric Railway
Regarding public transportation, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the goal of having more than 1,000 new buses on the streets of Athens by the end of the four-year term has already been achieved.
As he noted, 1,076 new buses are already in service, while the first fully refurbished Electric Railway train set will begin operating next month.
Another 13 trains are expected to be added within the next year .
Linking education and the labor market
As Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted, the connection between the labor market and education is also significant. In this context, he referred to the “Post-High School Year—Apprenticeship Class,” noting that for the 2026–2027 academic year, the submission of positions by private-sector companies and organizations began earlier than in any other year.
“Our goal is for more and more EPAL graduates to gain real work experience and meaningful career prospects in fields that the economy and industry need,” he stated.
At the same time, he referred to the regulation affecting thousands of active farmers, mainly in Thessaly and Macedonia, who until now were excluded from subsidies due to pending issues with the Land Registry.
As he explained, an amendment submitted to Parliament now allows producers who cultivate land listed as originally owned by the state to receive subsidies as usual.
“This is a long-standing distortion that we are correcting with objective criteria, so that people who actually cultivate the land do not lose the subsidies they are entitled to due to decades of bureaucratic backlogs,”he noted, clarifying that the regulation also applies retroactively to applications for 2025.
Spatial Planning and Cultural Heritage
The Prime Minister also highlighted the simultaneous planning of new Special Spatial Frameworks for Tourism, Renewable Energy, and Industry, referring to a process that is taking place “for the first time in Greece.”
Regarding the new Spatial Plan for Tourism, which is already under consultation, he emphasized that the goal is “to bring order and clear rules to tourism development” in order to protect the environment and local communities.
Referring to the Spatial Plan for Renewable Energy Sources, he noted that new rules and restrictions are being introduced for Natura areas, forests, small islands, and tourist zones, so that the energy transition proceeds “with greater balance and social consensus.”
Finally, he made special mention of the handover of the Palace of the Despots in the Castle City of Mystras, which he described as“a Byzantine palace complex unique in Europe.”
As he noted, the site has been restored, made universally accessible, and equipped with new technologies and digital tools, while a new fire suppression system has also been installed to protect the historic site.
He also placed particular emphasis on Metlen’s €340 million investment in gallium production, noting that Greece will be able to meet the EU’s entire demand for this raw material.
Recovery Fund and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the loan component of the Recovery Fund, amounting to €17.7 billion, has been fully utilized .
As he noted, the total investments to be mobilized now exceed €30 billion, with 60% of participating businesses being small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). At the same time, he noted that more than 15,000 SMEs have already received loans totaling €3 billion through InvestEU.
The Prime Minister also announced that the issuance of criminal records is being digitized and is now completed within five minutes for approximately 50% of citizens.
On the topic of culture, he mentioned the handover of the Palace of the Despots in Mystras, following restoration and renovation work.
New patrol boats, frigates
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also announced:
- the reinforcement of the Rapid Response Unit with 45 patrol cars and 45 motorcycles through a donation from the Public Power Corporation (PPC),
- the upgrade of the MEKO frigates,
- as well as the acquisition of two Italian Bergamini-class frigates (FREMM).
Concluding his post, he mentioned the Euroleague final, describing Greece’s hosting of the event as a significant success and wishing Olympiacos good luck.
