Uni.Fund III appears to be in the works , according to revelations made by the Uni.Fund team during a meeting with journalists. At the same time, it is not out of the question that some of the companies in which they have already invested could go public on the Athens Stock Exchange.
More specifically, Uni.Fund’s partners stated that they are preparing a new fund, which is expected to launch in 2027, following the same strategy they have implemented so far. In fact, as they noted, they expect to attract more private investors due to the tax incentives introduced by the government in recent years.
The trajectory of Uni.Fund I and the prospect of its portfolio companies listing on the XA
For those unfamiliar with Uni.Fund, it launched in January 2018, focusing on the deep tech sector. “We invest where technology meets the real economy,” the fund’s partners noted.
With €30 million in capital at its disposal, Uni.Fund I invested primarily in early-stage companies (pre-seed and seed). Its investors included the European Investment Fund (EIF) as well as private investors.
A total of 23 investments were made, with the largest investment being in Flexcar. Additionally, follow-on investments were made in 21 of these companies. Another interesting point shared by the Uni.fund team was that when they first invested in these companies, they had a turnover of around 5–6 million euros, whereas now the combined turnover of all the companies exceeds 100 million euros. They have also created around 700 jobs.
In fact, as they revealed, there is a possibility that some of the companies in the Uni.Fund I portfolio will be listed on the Athens Stock Exchange. “When there is revenue of 5–10 million euros, there is interest,” they noted.
The investment strategy of Uni.Fund II
Subsequently, in 2023, Uni.fund II was established, which is still active. It has €50 million in capital at its disposal and invests primarily in seed and late-seed companies, although there are also some investments in pre-seed companies. To date, it has invested in 20 companies.
Among the investors in Uni.fund II are the Hellenic Development Bank (HDB), the EIF, and private investors. The initial average investment (initial average ticket) amounts to 800,000 euros, and the total exceeds 1 million euros.
