Alexis Tsipras himself has begun the countdown to his party's presentation Alexis Tsipras on social media, with a clock counting down the hours to the sounds of a song composed especially for the occasion by composer Stamatis Kraounakis. At 8 p.m. from Thiseio Square, Mr. Tsipras will present the name, emblem, and Manifesto of the new party, while tomorrow or the day after he will submit the text with the signatures required by law to the Supreme Court.
The Manifesto will then be posted online foranyone who agrees with the new initiativeto sign, and, naturally, the big challenge will be “gaining massive popular support,” as noted by associates of the new political leader.
He himself will place great emphasis on the call he will make to progressive citizens to declare their participation in the “new journey” by signing, at this stage, the declaration.
“So that we may stand united against all the ills that undermine our homeland, the dignity of our people, democracy, equality, and trust in our institutions. To build together a democratic, just, creative, and modern Greece. And toput an end to the persecution of justice and integrity and the restriction of democracy,” as he will emphasize in his speech.
Furthermore, he will blame the crisis of public confidence on both New Democracy and PASOK, as the two old parties of the post-dictatorship era that continue to field the same faces in ministerial posts (note: an indirect yet clear reference to “Simitis-era” officials currently in the government).
Specifically, according to the same sources, the Declaration:
-The values that form the foundation of the party’s policy and action are emphasized.“The new patriotism, first and foremost, which is inextricably linked to social justice, defends democracy and its deepening in all spheres of power and society, puts a stop to the oligarchy’s unchecked power and the state’s subjugation to it, translates Greece’s history, its culture, and its contribution to the great cause of democracy and freedom into a source of strength for the country. And it places society above market profits and people above numbers.”
-The situation into which the country has fallen under the New Democracy government is described in the bleakest terms, with its style and ethos reflected in:
- “Wiretapping, corruption, the Tempi scandal, cover-ups, contempt for the rule of law, the manipulation of institutions and the judiciary.
- The international humiliation with OPEKEPE and the degradation of our homeland into a regular client of European courts.
- The destruction of trust and social cohesion.
- The elevation of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to the institution that connects Greece to Europe more than any other.”
-It is emphasized that “the crisis of confidence is fueled and exacerbated by the two old parties of the post-dictatorship era, New Democracy and PASOK, which field the same faces in ministerial posts, one under one banner, the other under another.
They have become the system within the system. After all, their debts exceed one billion euros. They don’t just owe the banks; they are dependent on them.”
-All Greek women and men, the people of the Left, of Democracy, and of Progress, are called upon to join a progressive united front.
Mr. Tsipras will emphasize that: “The vision and plan of the new movement is a major democratic and social reboot of the country led by the broad social majority. And the source of its values is the‘We’of the new era: a society that does not compromise with inequalities, and does not leave people’s lives in the hands of the market and the powerful. Our foundation is the democracy of everyday life, with a voice for the people and dignity in action.”
