The EFET, and specifically the Regional Directorate of Epirus, while conducting inspections as part of the Program “Official Control for Monitoring Chemical Parameters of Food Safety—Control for the Determination of Metals in Food” for the year 2026, took a sample of a frozen product with the following details: XIFIAS FETA SHRINK 1019, C.A. Atlantic Ocean FAO 34 Pacific Ocean FAO 87, with a freezing date of 02/05/2025, an expiration date of 02/05/2027, and batch number LOT 11126.
The product was packaged by G. SIDERIS S.A. (approval code GR 02-KN-07) on behalf of FOUR FISH, 8 Petrou Ralli Street, Athens, from which it was distributed to the company PANOS NIKOLAIDIS S.A., Ioannina Industrial Area, Ioannina, for sale to consumers, and where the sampling was conducted.
Following laboratory analyses by the First Department of the Chemical Service of Epirus and Western Macedonia, of the General Chemical State Laboratory, of the AADE, the sample taken was classified as NON-COMPLIANT - UNSAFE because it was found to contain mercury in a concentration exceeding the maximum permitted limit.
EFET demanded the immediate recall of the entire batch of the product in question, and the relevant inspections are already underway.
