The Public Real Estate Company (ETAD), a subsidiary of the Superfund, took the necessary steps today to ensure free access to the foreshore in the area of the Kallithea Thermal Springs in Rhodes, which had been granted to the municipal enterprise DERMAE, within the scope of its responsibilities and in accordance with the applicable legal and contractual framework.
Following an audit by the National Transparency Authority, ETAD was informed of findings regarding the use of this specific beachfront in previous years, and specifically issues related to the area being completely covered by umbrellas and lounge chairs, in violation of the stipulated terms.
In this context, the relevant announcement notes that the National Transparency Authority called on ETAD to take the necessary actions in accordance with the terms of the concession agreement. At the same time, the Rhodes Public Prosecutor’s Office, to which the case had been reported, requested an update on the compliance measures and the restoration of legality.
In light of the above and in accordance with both the legal framework governing the simple use of the foreshore and its contractual obligations, ETAD recently terminated the concession agreement and called on the Municipality of Rhodes and the municipal enterprise DERMAE to surrender the specific site.
Given the need for immediate compliance with the findings and relevant recommendations of the competent authorities, as well as the obligation to protect the public interest and citizens’ free access to the foreshore, ETAD took the necessary steps today to take possession of the site, ensuring free access to the beach, without the cooperation of the Municipality of Rhodes and the municipal enterprise, despite the fact that they were asked to assist.
ETAD consistently fulfills its institutional role by uniformly applying the framework for the management of public property and ensuring equal access for citizens to public spaces, the statement concludes.
