Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced at the “Prolavo” conference that the program “Prolaivo” for the period 2027–2030, noting that funding of 300 million euros has already been secured for the next four years. As the Prime Minister noted, free preventive screenings will continue even after the Recovery and Resilience Fund concludes, with the goal of making prevention a cornerstone of public health.
In this context, six key prevention programs—which affect millions of citizens and cover critical areas of health—will be maintained and strengthened. Specifically, programs for the prevention of breast cancer, cervical cancer, and colorectal cancer will continue, with the aim of early diagnosis and reducing mortality.
At the same time, the cardiovascular risk prevention program remains in effect, while special emphasis is placed on addressing obesity in both adults and minors through prevention and awareness initiatives. The new package of interventions also includes a program for the prevention of kidney dysfunction, expanding the scope of preventive services.
As the Prime Minister emphasized, the philosophy of prevention is now a central pillar of the national health system, with the aim of improving citizens’ quality of life and addressing serious diseases in a timely manner.
Already, over 6 million citizens have undergone preventive screenings
The implementation of the National Preventive Screening Program“Prolavano” continues, offeringfree, organized, and accessible screeningto millions of citizens. To date,over 6 million Greekshave undergone preventive screenings.
Here are the updated figures in detail:
- Breast Cancer Prevention Program: To date, nearly 1,205,142 digital mammograms have been performed, with 73,395 women identified in time through the findings.
- Cervical Cancer Prevention Program: To date, 1,119,341 gynecological screenings (Pap smears, HPV-DNA tests, and gynecological examinations) have been performed, including 12,000 colposcopies and biopsies for the early detection of lesions.
- Colorectal Cancer Prevention Program: To date, 1,000,225 self-screening tests, 38,392 colonoscopies, and over 51,238 medical procedures (colonoscopies, polypectomy biopsies) have been performed
- Cardiovascular Risk Prevention Program: 3,085,294 examinations have been conducted. Following the initial screening, 67,589 examinations for coronary artery disease and ischemia were deemed necessary and performed.
Additionally:
- Program to Address Adult Obesity: 38,894 citizens received free medical care and nutritional counseling. The geographic distribution of citizens who received the program’s services is as follows:

- Renal Dysfunction Prevention Program: 364,680 laboratory tests have been conducted, and 36,000 cases have been identified.
