“As required by law, we submitted to the Supreme Court a symbolic 300 of the thousands of signatures, as well as our founding declaration,” said Alexis Tsipras as he left the Supreme Court building.
In addition to Hellenic Police spokesperson Theoni Kufonikolakou and the four deputy spokespersons, Mr. Tsipras was accompanied in this process by former Supreme Court Justice Eleni Lepenioti, the iconic Supreme Court justice who presided over the Golden Dawn trial.
When asked why he made this choice and what it signifies, Mr. Tsipras replied: “What you understand it signifies, and what I said, is that democracy without justice degenerates, and we must all fight with democracy and justice as our banner.”
The president of the new party, ELAS, also stated:“Tens of thousands of citizens from all over Greece, as well as Greeks living abroad—Greeks of the diaspora—have responded to our call for a broad coalition for Greece, for Justice, for Democracy, and for a life of dignity.
It is deeply moving that from the very first hours, people rushed to sign our declaration on the website myelas.gr, where thousands of citizens are still rushing to sign.

As we state in our founding declaration, we address all Greek women and men. Our banner is Democracy and Justice, because Democracy degenerates without Justice, and Justice cannot breathe without a strong Democracy.
We are very happy and optimistic. We aspire to be of service to society, to the people, and to our homeland. We are happy because there has been a tremendous response.
Our journey and our struggle are just beginning, and we hope that we will succeed in bringing something better to this land.”
