"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deep concern over the incidents that occurred yesterday, May 30, 2026, in Zvernec, Albania, during a protest by residents over their property rights, among whom was a Greek citizen who was injured,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release.
It emphasizes that the Greek Embassy in Tirana immediately took all necessary steps to provide him with all necessary consular and medical assistance.
“The Greek Embassy in Tirana is simultaneously making the necessary representations to the Albanian side, demanding a full investigation of the incident and the assignment of responsibility,” it states, adding: “In this context, we are noting the initial response from the Albanian authorities.”
“We underscore the need for full respect for the rule of law, including the protection of the rights and property of members of the Greek National Minority, as well as the importance of effectively protecting protected environmental areas, in the context of alignment with the European acquis, compliance with which is a prerequisite for progress in the accession process,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes.
