“The recent violent incidents in Albania, which led to the injury of a Greek expatriate, are a cause for serious concern,” stated Dimitris Mantzos, head of PASOK’s Foreign Affairs Committee, in a press release .
He adds that these events underscore our country’s need “for continuous and close monitoring of developments in the region, bringing relevant issues to the attention of the competent EU bodies.”
Mr. Mantzos notes that “it must, in any case, be made clear to the Albanian Government that the country’s path toward EU accession requires full compliance with the Copenhagen Criteria and the obligations related to the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, the protection of the natural environment, and respect for the rights of minorities, in particular the property rights of the Greek national minority.”
