Yesterday, Monday, June 1, 2026, Yannis Maniatis, Vice-President of the Group of Socialists and Democrats and Head of the PASOK Eurogroup, held a meeting with Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing.
During the bilateral meeting, the two men exchanged views on the progress of negotiations among the political groups in the Parliament regarding the “Connecting Europe Facility” (CEF) program, for which Y. Maniatis serves as the Socialists and Democrats’ rapporteur.
Following the meeting, G. Maniatis stated:
“Together with Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, we discussed issues of mutual interest regarding the allocation of 30 billion euros to the EU’s cross-border Projects of Common Interest (PCIs), as well as to the EU’s cross-border renewable energy projects. My role as the rapporteur for the Socialists and Democrats allows me to outline the choices I believe we must implement for the next Programming Period, 2028–2034.
I made it clear to the Commissioner—and he agreed with me—that I view with absolute optimism the electrical interconnections between Member States, the interconnections within Member States that have a cross-border impact, as well as energy storage, investments that will lead to lower prices in all Member States and, of course, in Greece.
I expressed serious reservations—which the Commissioner also shared—regarding the efforts of certain Member States and political groups, primarily on the right, to expand the scope of the Regulation to include nuclear energy projects.
I hope the Greek government agrees with the above.
Negotiations at the political level in the European Parliament are continuing.”
