The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged protests with Ukraine over the maritime drone that was detected off the coast of Lefkada.
Specifically, the protests took place last Thursday and Friday (May 28 and 29) and were delivered to both the Ukrainian Embassy and the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The notes point out that the vessel posed a serious threat to maritime safety and, as specifically noted, could have resulted in the loss of innocent civilian lives, as well as incalculable environmental damage.
Athens further notes that the transfer of military operations to the Mediterranean jeopardizes national security and threatens to deal a blow to the national economy.
The note concludes by stating that Ukraine’s right to self-defense cannot justify such actions. Official responses from the Ukrainian side are now awaited.
