Greece is at the heart of Mondelēz International’s growth strategy, with three production facilities and two international hubs forming the multinational group’s manufacturing and strategic footprint in the country.
According to statements made yesterday by the general manager of Mondelēz International for Greece and Cyprus, Marina Hadrovic, the Greek subsidiary, with sales exceeding €250 million in 2025, aims to increase sales volumes by entering new product categories and leveraging the brands in its portfolio.
It should be noted that the acquisition of Chipita four years ago was a strategic milestone for Mondelēz International, allowing it to invest in a new product category: baked snacks. At the same time, with the acquisition, Mondelēz added two more production facilities to its portfolio, one in Lamia and one in Larissa.
The Lamia plant, one of the largest and most modern food production facilities in Greece, manufactures baked snacks such as 7DAYS and Molto croissants, Bake Rolls, as well as pretzels and potato chips.
The Larissa plant manufactures Spin Span jam as well as the filling for 7DAYS croissants, which is exported to European factories that produce these specific products.
According to management, following the acquisition of Chipita, investments exceeding €18 million have been made to modernize and upgrade existing production facilities, including the historic Pavlidis factory on Piraeus Street, as well as to develop new products.
At the same time, Mondelēz is strategically investing in high-value-added initiatives, such as the Research & Development and Cybersecurity Centers, which serve as pillars of innovation and expertise, supporting the group’s global operations and strengthening the connection between production, technology, and business strategy.
In this sector, Greece is a strategically important hub for the group in Europe, with two centers. The Research & Development (R&D) Center operates at the Lamia plant, serving as a global Center of Excellence for innovation in the baked goods sector. The R&D Center develops expertise and innovative applications that are utilized internationally.
Innovations in bakery products are applied in European markets, as well as in Brazil, Vietnam, India, the U.S., and Mexico, making Greek-inspired products known around the world.
The Research & Development Center in Lamia operates in close collaboration with Mondelēz’s global R&D hubs, such as those in Wrocław and Paris-Saclay, strengthening the international exchange of know-how and collaboration in innovation.
During the 2024–2025 period, the Research & Development team created new innovative products, including Milka Croissant and 7DAYS Oreo, as well as automation initiatives in confectionery and research to extend product shelf life.
Furthermore, Greece is home to one of Mondelēz International’s just three Global Cybersecurity Centers worldwide, underscoring the country’s importance in high-tech, value-added activities.
The Greek Center is staffed by more than 50 engineers specializing in cybersecurity, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and serves 500 of the group’s sites—140 of which are factories—across 80 countries.
The Greek company invests significantly in human resources and actively contributes to the creation of stable, high-quality jobs, boosting employment in Athens and the surrounding region and supporting the domestic economy.
At the same time, due to its position as the regional headquarters for Southern Central Europe (SCE) and the headquarters of global innovation and cybersecurity centers, it creates and promotes high-responsibility, specialized, and high-paying jobs. At the same time, Mondelēz’s collaboration with a broad network of local suppliers, distributors, and service providers contributes significantly to the creation of a broader economic ecosystem beyond direct employment.
Mondelēz International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MDLZ) is a global food company with net revenue of $38.5 billion for 2025.
