Hellenic Railways is completing maintenance and cleaning work on the tracks along the entire Diakofto–Kalavryta line, as part of efforts to resume operations on the rack-and-pinion line and subject to confirmation from local authorities that the risk of landslides along the line has been reduced.
Clearing and cleaning work on the railway line has already been completed on the section from the 15th to the 22nd kilometer, with the removal of vegetation and materials affecting the right-of-way.
On Friday, June 5, a special work train carrying track maintenance personnel is scheduled to run in order to complete work on the remaining section of the line, in anticipation of the possible reopening of the Odontotos Railway during the summer season, when severe weather conditions are not expected.
It should be noted that Hellenic Railways has already requested official information from the relevant technical departments of the Municipality of Kalavryta regarding the current situation in the Vouraikos area, as well as data regarding the presence or absence of severe landslides during the summer season; however, no such confirmation has been received to date.
This information will be taken into account along with the other technical and operational data being reviewed by the Infrastructure Manager.
Hellenic Railways continues to take all necessary steps to prepare the line and assess the conditions for its resumption of service, with the safety of passengers and employees as the top priority.
