In a statement, Pavlos Polakis and 36 other members of the Central Committee of SYRIZA-PS propose that SYRIZA run independently in the elections should efforts to form a united front prove unsuccessful.
In their statement, the 37 call on other members of the Central Committee to co-sign the text against the “discrediting of the party,” in order to form a new majority.
“Today we are putting an end to the dissolution of SYRIZA-PS,” they state, explaining: “Our goal is a unified ballot of progressive forces, in which SYRIZA-PS will participate as a party and not by ‘lending’ officials following individual agreements.”
In the event that efforts to form a united front are unsuccessful, the “37” propose that the party participate in the elections “with the progressive forces and individuals who recognize the necessity and desire to do so.”
Pavlos Polakis and his 36 fellow members point out that “politics is the art of setting boundaries, not the management of dissolution” and criticize all those—MPs and party officials—who “act as prospective candidates for another party.”
The text proposes the formation of a ballot committee, a program committee, and an electoral organizing committee.
It should be noted that the Central Committee of SYRIZA-PS consists of approximately 276 members, given that there have been some last-minute resignations.
