Defense Minister Nikos Dendias is traveling to Cyprus, where he will participate in the Informal Meeting of European Union Defense Ministers in Nicosia.
Today, Sunday, June 7, Mr. Dendias will attend the working dinner of the European Union Defense Ministers.
During the Informal Meeting tomorrow morning, Monday, June 8, the defense ministers are expected to discuss, among other things, existing and emerging security challenges, the latest developments regarding Ukraine, as well as issues of security and freedom of navigation.
This will be followed by a working lunch, during which defense ministers will exchange views on the defense dimensions of the Security Strategy currently under development, focusing primarily on promoting the European Union’s defense readiness, the EU’s contribution to strengthening NATO’s European pillar, improving the effectiveness of decision-making mechanisms, and the operational implementation of Article 42(7) of the TEU (mutual assistance clause).
As part of his visit to Cyprus, the Minister of National Defense will be received on Monday afternoon by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, at the Presidential Palace and will visit His Beatitude Archbishop George of New Justiniana and All Cyprus at the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus.
