An incident involving the harassment of aircraft belonging to Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, as well as those of his counterparts from France and the Netherlands, which were en route to Cyprus, occurred on Sunday evening.
Specifically, according to ERT, the illegal control tower at Tympou Airport contacted the aircraft and attempted to direct them. The same incident has occurred in the past and essentially attempts to legitimize the pseudo-state in this way; it is considered very dangerous for the aircraft and for air traffic.
Worse still, the aircraft were also visually harassed as two of the F-16s that Turkey had brought to Cyprus in March took off.
The aircraft did not approach, but the fact that they had taken off and were at a considerable distance at the time the Minister of National Defense and two of his counterparts were arriving in Nicosia for the informal meeting of European defense ministers scheduled for today, Monday (06/08) in Nicosia, is unprecedented.
