As part of the Posidonia exhibition, the VLGC-class liquefied natural gas carrier Hellas Prosperity was named “Ship of the Month” for June by the Norwegian classification society DNV.
The Hellas Prosperity is part of a series of vessels built by Latsco Shipping at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyards, which stand out for their innovative design. This approach reflects the company’s strategy to transfer the operational experience of its existing fleet to newbuilds, investing in proven and reliable technologies that exceed both compliance requirements and the shipyards’ standard technical specifications.
The vessel incorporates advanced construction and environmental features, such as optimized main engine power and power generation system layout, allowing for full utilization of the shaft generator without compromising speed. At the same time, the use of LPG as fuel for both propulsion and power generation contributes to a significant reduction in the environmental footprint.
The Hellas Prosperity features enhanced berthing capabilities, ensuring full compliance even with the most stringent compatibility requirements of LPG terminals. Additionally, it offers faster loading and unloading rates, enhancing operational flexibility and efficiency.
With the ability to transport ammonia (NH₃), a cargo capacity of 87,000 cubic meters, and increased fuel capacity through an optimized tank layout, the vessel ensures greater range and meets the demands of modern and future shipping.
The award was presented by Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, DNV’s Chief Executive Officer Maritime, to Antonis Georgantzis, Chief Operating Officer of Latsco Marine Management Inc., in the presence of executives who participated in the ship’s design and development.
DNV’s “Ship of the Month” initiative highlights vessels that are pioneers in the adoption of advanced technologies and innovative solutions, with an emphasis on decarbonization and the digital transformation of shipping.
