Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met today, June 10, with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the SEECP Summit in Sofia.
According to diplomatic sources, they discussed the state of transatlantic relations ahead of the July Summit in Ankara, as well as regional developments, with an emphasis on the situation in the broader Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Regarding the pending Turkish legislative initiative, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that unilateral actions do not produce legal results and do not contribute to maintaining a calm climate, and that the sole remaining difference between Greece and Turkey is the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone and the continental shelf.
The two ministers discussed developments regarding the Cyprus issue, the upcoming meeting with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Cyprus, and the holding of the informal expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue.
Finally, the two ministers discussed bilateral relations and agreed to keep channels of communication open.
