Another hotel project is underway in the historic center of Athens, following approval from the Ministry of Culture, which has given the “green light” for the conversion of a property into a tourist accommodation.
Specifically, the Department of Prehistoric and Classical Archaeological Sites, Monuments, and Archaeological Works approved the architectural study, which calls for the renovation of a four-story building with a ground floor and basement, as well as its conversion from a retail space to a hotel.
Approval for the redevelopment of the property, located at 12 Polikleitou Street in the heart of the Greek capital, was granted following a positive opinion from the Central Archaeological Council (CAC), as it was determined that the project does not cause direct or indirect damage to the Acropolis archaeological site or to protected monuments in the area.
The decision is accompanied by specific conditions, including a prohibition on converting the roof into a public gathering space and the requirement for new approval from the competent Ephorate of Antiquities in the event that additional excavation work is required.
In fact, archaeological approval is one of the most critical stages in the project’s development, paving the way for the issuance of the necessary permits and the commencement of construction.
The company behind the project
According to the relevant decision, the property, which will be converted into a hotel, belongs to “DOCA - HATZIFOTIADIS S.A.,” a company linked to the Hatzifotiadis family, known for the DOCA fashion brand.
The development of this particular brand has been entrusted to “KOSMOMODA FASHION GOODS S.A.,” which essentially operates in the field of apparel—primarily women’s—and fashion accessories. Based in Thessaloniki, the
President of “DOKA - HATZIFOTIADIS S.A.” is Doka Siliani, who serves as Vice President and Managing Director of “KOSMOMODA FASHION GOODS S.A.” Similarly, Pantelis Hatzifotiadis is listed as Vice President of “DOCA - HATZIFOTIADIS S.A.”, where he serves as President and CEO of the fashion company.
Today, the DOCA brand is considered one of the most recognizable Greek fashion labels in the accessories sector, with a presence in retail outlets.
