The Association of Mobile Telecommunications Companies (EEKT) announces the appointment of Mr. Aris Markou as General Manager.
Mr. Markou has more than 20 years of experience in the digital technologies and business development sectors. He previously served as General Manager of the Association of Innovative Applications Enterprises of Greece (SEKEE) and as Commercial Director of the Tomako Group, a group of companies providing innovative solutions in the fields of education, industry, and healthcare.
In previous years, he held the position of Sales Director as well as Director of the Corporate Mobile Customer Division at Samsung. He has also worked at Microsoft, Vodafone, Nokia, and Huawei. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Crete and a master’s degree in Information Technology Systems from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.
According to a related announcement, the new Director General of EEKT is taking on his role at a pivotal juncture, where strengthening Europe’s competitiveness is an immediate priority and the speed and security of networks will determine the digital future. With telecommunications serving as critical infrastructure for the economy, businesses, and society, the Union’s goal is for mobile communications to continue to lead the way, by ensuring conditions that encourage investment by providers and the infrastructure Greece needs to remain at the forefront of digital developments and maintain strong growth momentum in the digital age.
On the occasion of assuming his duties, Mr. Markou stated: “It is with great pleasure, but also with a sense of honor and responsibility, that I assume the general directorship of an organization that has proven its institutional role as a guarantor of the country’s digital development. I am committed to working intensively and systematically so that the Association can actively contribute to shaping a modern regulatory environment and promoting investment in next-generation networks, which will support the Greek economy and society on the path toward 2030.”
