Defense Minister Nikos Dendias emphasized the need for Greece to develop strong domestic production capabilities in unmanned systems in a post on X.
“A country that has faced a threat, that is currently under threat, cannot afford to passively observe developments in the field of unmanned systems,” he noted.
The minister emphasized that Greece must participate in these developments “not only as a buyer and user of systems, but as a country that produces, designs, and develops,” linking this goal to the “2030 Agenda” and the strengthening of the Armed Forces’ operational autonomy.
According to Mr. Dendias, within a short period of time, the 306th EBT and the 316th SPTCH will have the capacity to produce 4,000 Category 1 FPV drones within two years.
At the same time, he noted that with the addition of six Mobile Production Units, this capability gains greater reach, flexibility, and operational depth.
He also made special mention of the new Unmanned Systems Manufacturing Plant in Malakasa (309 ESEM), which, as he said, transforms an initial capability into industrial-scale production.
“It is the first major industrial facility of the Greek Armed Forces that is fully specialized in the manufacture of Unmanned Systems,” he noted.
