On Monday morning, the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, and spoke with residents, producers, and shop owners during his tour of the local farmers’ market and the area’s shops.
In his remarks, Mr. Androulakis noted:
“If anyone wants to see how society lives today, they should visit one of the hundreds of open-air markets set up every day throughout Greece. To see how citizens choose what to put in their shopping baskets and what to leave behind.
It would be good if the Prime Minister himself came to witness the real anger of society, rather than the media-driven anger he himself expresses.
He should explain to consumers why our inflation rate is double the European Union average.
Why are there no checks on the internal price gouging by multinational companies?
Why aren’t there audits of many links in the supply chain? What happened to the letter to Ms. von der Leyen that was supposedly going to solve the problem?
Explain why massive fines aren’t being imposed on powerful players in the food trade, when they’ve made billions at the expense of society.
A third four-year term for New Democracy means a third four-year term of austerity. That is why political change is needed now.
A PASOK government that will reduce VAT on basic goods, lower the excise tax on energy and fuel, and establish a strong and fully staffed Competition Commission and a Single Consumer Authority to set rules for an unregulated market.
Because for us, for PASOK, the state has a fundamental duty: to protect citizens and their incomes.”
