The government will ensure that the drop in oil prices is passed on to the market, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, announcing that tomorrow, Wednesday, the government will present an innovative platform, “posokanei,” which will empower consumers to find the best prices at any given moment.
Speaking in the municipality of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni, where he inspected the Attica Region’s flood-control projects, the prime minister stated, among other things:
“Our generation, which came of age politically in the 1980s and 1990s, has seen the country crushed by debt, and for the first time, Greece is managing to reduce its public debt at the fastest rate in history. We have a duty not to pass on to the next generation an unmanageable debt that will suffocate us. We have charted a prudent course to reduce taxes and support our citizens.”
Referring to the upcoming elections, Kyriakos Mitsotakis posed the question:
“Do we want to once again place our trust in those who make promises they cannot keep? Who will we entrust with the helm of the country during a period of critical geopolitical developments? Why are they bothered by the real dilemma of who will answer the phone in the event of a crisis?”
“In today’s political contest, ‘Free Ride 1’ is competing against ‘Free Ride 2.’ Whoever promises you free benefits—know that they will take them away from you. We create wealth in society that is distributed as dividends to citizens, without jeopardizing public finances; we cannot make promises we cannot fulfill the very next day,” the prime minister noted.
“Some are promising free access to public transportation, while we have eliminated the tax for the younger generation. Be very wary of those who hand out things that don’t exist. Think about what we’ll be hearing until the elections. Only we have a plan for the day after,” he added.
During the Prime Minister’s on-site inspection of the Attica Region’s flood control projects along the Korbi stream—which has flooded repeatedly, culminating in the severe weather in January 2026— Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias and the mayor of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni, Grigoris Konstantelos, were present.
“Kyriakos Mitsotakis is there for all the problems,” said Nikos Hardalias, while Mr. Konstantelos thanked the prime minister, noting that the city is changing with the government’s help.
