The new digital platform PosoKanei.gov.gr goes live today, replacing e-Katanalotis and aiming to become a new price comparison tool for consumers.
The platform will be presented at 12:30 p.m. by Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos, Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Director of the Independent Authority for Market Supervision and Consumer Protection, Despoina Tsangari, includes thousands of products from basic categories such as food, detergents, cleaning supplies, personal care items, stationery, and pet products.
Through the digital app, consumers will be able to compare prices in real time among major supermarket chains and find the best deal.
Digital shopping cart feature
One of the app’s key innovations, designed to increase transparency in consumer shopping, is the digital shopping cart. Users can add products they’re interested in and immediately see the total cost of that same shopping cart at different supermarket chains.
At the same time, PosoKanei.gov.gr will maintain a two-month price history, allowing consumers to verify whether a sale is genuine or whether the product’s price had previously increased.
Even in the initial tests, significant price differences have been recorded, even for the exact same product. A typical example is a specific brand of long-life milk, which appears to be sold by different retail chains at a price difference exceeding 60 leptes per package.
The government’s goal is to increase market transparency, make everyday shopping easier for consumers, and foster competition among businesses in order to limit price hikes and promote more competitive pricing.
