Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA)—Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Lemnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastellorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia), compared to 2025.
Specifically, according to the statistics, the total number of passengers (international and domestic passenger arrivals and departures) for January–May 2026 totaled 2,946,699 passengers, compared to 2,715,790 passengers during the same period in 2025.
May statistics also show a strong increase for HCAA airports, with a record number of passengers at “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport
May 2026 saw an 8% increase in passenger traffic overall across all 24 HCAA airports. For example, Heraklion Airport, which served the most travelers in May, recorded an 8.1% increase in passenger traffic and handled 1,139,079 passengers, compared to 1,054,181 during the same month last year.
Increases were also recorded at all 39 airports in the country (24 operated by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, 14 by FRAPORT GREECE, and Athens International Airport).
Passenger traffic also rose by 5.7% during the first five months of 2026 across all of the country’s airports serving commercial flights. Specifically, passenger traffic reached 23,076,532, compared to 21,837,473 passengers during the corresponding period in 2025. As for the number of aircraft movements (domestic and international arrivals and departures) from January through May 2026, across all 39 airports in the country—for which air traffic control is primarily managed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA)—there was a 4.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Specifically, a total of 186,119 flights were operated, compared to 177,573 flights last year.
