“The immediate and universal implementation of the Supreme Court’s clear ruling on the Katseli Law and borrowers is the State’s obligation,” said the president of SYRIZA-PS, Socrates Famellos, speaking at an event organized by the Athens Bar Association regarding the Supreme Court’s plenary session ruling on the Katseli Law, and added: “It is also an obligation toward the rule of law. Because, unfortunately, we are living in a time when there are numerous violations of the rule of law and the Constitution in our country. It is the responsibility of all of us—toward the Constitution, democracy, and society—to defend this clear ruling.”
The president of SYRIZA-PS congratulated those who fought to secure this ruling from the Supreme Court and warned the government not to attempt to undermine it: “The government must not attempt to undermine this excellent decision, which effectively restores the principles of Law 3869—the Katseli Law— and reintegrates an over-indebted consumer and protects the primary residence, which is the legislature’s intent. It is unacceptable that, at a time when foreclosures are increasing and the government has allowed the unchecked actions of funds and servicers, and the banks’ billions in excess profits, for either Mr. Pierrakakis or Mr. Stournaras to imply that there are ambiguities,” he said emphatically.
