The Conference of Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament selected the new President of the Supreme Court, though this process is merely advisory, as the final decisions will be made by the Council of Ministers.
In the vote held among the members of the Conference, the current Vice President of the Supreme Court, Panagiotis Lymberopoulos (15 votes), came in first, followed by Socrates Plastiras (10 votes) in second place and Panagiotis Venizeleas (9 votes) in third.
Half of the judges who had been summoned to the hearing were absent from today’s proceedings; reports attribute their absence to the fact that they believed Mr. Lymberopoulos was the frontrunner anyway.
The proceedings will resume next week for the vote on the new Prosecutor of the Supreme Court.
