Fuel prices in the Greek market are showing signs of easing at a time when summer getaways have already begun and consumption is on the rise. The drop in international oil prices to around $80 per barrel is gradually filtering through to the domestic market, leading to lower prices at gas stations.
The average nationwide price of unleaded gasoline, down from a high of 2.14 euros per liter on May 22, has fallen to 1.968 euros, while the price of diesel fuel has dropped from 2.12 euros on March 31 to 1.697 euros per liter. Automotive LPG is now 35 cents cheaper, having dropped from 1.37 euros at the end of March to 1.022 euros per liter.
Where the lowest prices are recorded
The lowest prices are in Attica, where the average price of unleaded gasoline has dropped to 1.935 euros per liter and diesel to 1.659 euros. Thessaloniki follows with 1.951 and 1.678 euros per liter, respectively, while in Pieria, unleaded gasoline sells for 1.954 euros and diesel for 1.675 euros per liter.
According to the president of the Attica Association of Gas Station Owners and Fuel Dealers, Nikos Papageorgiou, prices will stabilize at these levels over the summer—that is, around 1.88 euros per liter for unleaded gasoline and around 1.63–1.64 euros for diesel.
In island regions, prices remain high, although they have fallen compared to the previous period. The average price of unleaded gasoline in the Cyclades is 2.157 euros per liter and that of diesel is 1.908 euros, while in the Dodecanese, they stand at 2.070 and 1.891 euros, respectively. In the prefecture of Lasithi, gasoline is sold at 2.040 euros per liter, with diesel at 1.758 euros.
According to gas station owners, in the coming days the average nationwide price of unleaded gasoline will drop further to 1.9 euros per liter, and diesel to 1.63 euros.
