Greece officially joined the Pax Silica initiative, as Greece’s ambassador to Washington, Antonis Alexandridis, and the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jacob Helberg, signed the relevant Declaration at the State Department.
Pax Silica is the U.S. government’s new strategic initiative to strengthen cooperation among allies and partners in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, energy, and digital infrastructure.
In Washington, it is seen as part of a broader U.S. effort to establish secure supply chains for strategically important technologies and reduce Western economies’ dependence on China.
Along with Greece, the European Commission, Germany, and the Netherlands have joined the initiative. Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, Israel, the United Kingdom, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Finland, and India are already participating in Pax Silica.
Greece’s participation is directly linked to efforts to develop infrastructure related to artificial intelligence and new digital technologies. This includes the planned investment by the Public Power Corporation (PPC) to build a large data center in Kozani, in collaboration with an American hyperscaler, as well as the “DAIDALOS” supercomputer being developed in Lavrio.
The first Pax Silica Summit will take place on June 25 and 26 in Washington, D.C., with the participation of representatives from member states and executives from companies active in the fields of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies.
