The successful share capital increase by ADMIE carries a threefold positive message—financial, energy-related, and consumer benefits— noted Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou, speaking today at the opening ceremony of the Athens Stock Exchange session, marking the start of trading in the Operator’s new shares.
“There will be enormous benefits for citizens, with savings of 1 billion euros per year and, at the same time, an improvement in the quality of the tourism product,” the minister said. “From a financial standpoint, beyond the oversubscription, there is also the qualitative aspect, as the largest investment firms are expressing their confidence, and that speaks volumes. At the same time, there is also an energy dimension. ADMIE is the backbone of the energy system. Without strong grids, we have no energy security and cannot fulfill our role as an energy hub,” he added.
Yiannos Kontopoulos, CEO of Euronext Athens, emphasized that over the past month, 5.3 billion euros were raised on the stock exchange with impressive oversubscriptions, and that the capital market can contribute to further strengthening the economy.
Yiannis Karabelas, Chairman and CEO of the holding company, described it as a momentous day and noted the investors’ recognition of both the work that has been accomplished and the Operator’s new business plan.
ADMIE Chairman and CEO Manos Manousakis thanked political leaders, employees, regulatory authorities, banks, and investors, and emphasized: “We will honor this trust and continue to support economic growth and the energy transition.”
Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias stressed that more important than the capital increase is the investment plan that will follow, which the banks will support.
Finally, Vasiliki Lazarakou, Chair of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, noted that ADMIE’s capital increase demonstrates that the Capital Market Commission effectively supports companies that are making strategic investments with a broader impactfor the economy. “The oversubscription by leading international funds shows that the market is on the radar of major foreign investors. Every successful public offering is a sign of market maturity and a boost to confidence in the market,” she concluded.
