On Tuesday, the VIANEX Group inaugurated its new Research & Development (R&D; Center) in the Patras Industrial Zone on Tuesday, a strategic investment of 12.47 million euros that strengthens the country’s capabilities in pharmaceutical research and innovation and contributes to the further development of the Greek pharmaceutical industry.
The event was attended by representatives of the government, local government, and the business community, including Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, Deputy Minister of Development Lazaros Tsavdaridis, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr. Iasonas Fotilas; the Regional Governor of Western Greece, Mr. Nektarios Farmakis; the Mayor of Western Achaea, Mr. Grigoris Alexopoulos; and the President of the Panhellenic Union of Pharmaceutical Industries, Mr. Theodoros Tryfon.
The investment, which was implemented as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU, marks a new era for research and innovation in the health sector, strengthening Greece’s position as a regional hub for the development of high-value-added pharmaceutical products.
Utilizing cutting-edge technologies, the new Center has the capacity to develop and produce multiple pharmaceutical formulations, and more than 20 generic formulations and new pharmaceutical forms are already under development. At the same time, it actively participates in national and international research programs, including the European GENz-trials project, which introduces an innovative framework for conducting clinical trials through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The Center also conducts bioequivalence studies, ensuring the development of pharmaceutical products that meet the highest international standards of quality and safety.
The new Research & Development Center is already staffed by 20 highly specialized scientists and creates the conditions for the development of innovative pharmaceutical formulations, attracting scientific talent, and strengthening participation in international research programs and collaborations.
VIANEX has been operating in Patras since 1999 through Plant D in the Patras Industrial Area, serving as a long-standing pillar of employment and development for the local community. Plant D is among the most modern and specialized production facilities for cephalosporin-based products in Europe. With the new Research & Development Center, the Group is further strengthening its presence in Western Greece, creating a comprehensive ecosystem of production, research, and innovation.
