By decision of Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis, in collaboration with Deputy Minister of Transportation Giorgos Kotsiras, the project “Installation of Electrification, Signaling - Remote Control, and ETCS L1 on the existing single-track Paleofarsalos–Kalambaka railway line—Phase II” was included in the NSRF sectoral program “Transport 2021–2027,” with the beneficiary being “HELLENIC RAILWAYS S.A.”, with a total public expenditure of €85,629,355.02 and co-financed public expenditure of €60,870,881.70 from Cohesion Fund resources.
The project involves the completion of the installation of signaling and remote control systems, ETCS L1, and electrification on the existing single-track Paleofarsalos–Kalambaka railway line (80.4 km in length), as well as the completion of the construction of a bypass and a platform in the Sofades area and small-scale renovation/repair work on existing railway station buildings.
The implementation of the project will contribute to the modernization of the central railway network through the installation of state-of-the-art systems, thereby enhancing safety, interoperability, and efficiency.
