On Saturday morning, Nikos Androulakis, President of PASOK-Movement for Change, visited the Agios Dimitrios market in Rhodes.
In his remarks, he noted, among other things:
“New Democracy’s policies always benefit oligopolies and middlemen. Pensioners, wage earners, the average family, and the most vulnerable Greeks continue to lose out.
New Democracy, through its choices, has created overperformance. Alexis Tsipras also agrees with this overperformance that Kyriakos Mitsotakis touts.
But where does this “overperformance” come from? From a healthy productive base? From competitiveness? From resilient growth? No, of course not.
This “overperformance” is the result of high taxes and high indirect taxes. In other words, the daily hardships and the high cost of living are being converted into revenue for the state, and they call this “overperformance.”
That is why we need political change. These daily hardships—which are the result of political choices—must come to an end.
We are committed to a unified consumer authority that will monitor price accuracy at every link in the supply chain.
For a strong Competition Commission that will establish rules in an unregulated market.
To reduce the excise tax on fuel and energy and to implement a targeted reduction in the VAT on essential goods.
On all these issues, I will immediately submit a topical question to the Prime Minister, so that he may come to Parliament and answer the Greek people.
Because for seven years now, he has been a lackey of powerful economic interests.
Because for seven years now, he has allowed powerful market players to reach deep into the pockets of the Greek people on a daily basis.”
