Consumers in seven more cities in Western Greece and Epirus will gradually gain access to natural gas between 2026 and March 2027, according to the plans of the Hellenic Natural Gas Distribution Company, Enaon EDA.
These are the cities of Patras, Agrinio, Pyrgos, Ioannina, Preveza, Igoumenitsa, and Arta, where work on constructing the networks is in full swing and the supply to consumers is gradually beginning, while work to complete the networks continues.
Specifically:
Patras: Construction of the medium-pressure network is approximately 98% complete, while the low-pressure network—both within and around the Patras Business Park (E.P.P., BI.PE.) as well as within the urban area, is approximately 27% complete. Key loops have already been constructed in areas such as Zarouchleika and Taramboura, with work gradually expanding toward the central part of the city around Queen Olga Square and the Skagiopouleio area. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The network serving the city of Patras will be supplied via the second small-scale onshore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal, which is located in the Patras Business Park. The first LNG terminal has already been put into operation and has been supplying two industrial facilities within the Patras Business Park since April 2025, while the second LNG terminal, which will supply the city of Patras, has been completed and is expected to receive its operating license in the near future. In addition, ten contracts have already been signed for new industrial customers.
Agrinio - Pyrgos: Construction of the network is proceeding at a steady pace, with the network in Pyrgos approximately 55% complete and that in Agrinio approximately 26% complete. At the same time, the installation of LNG stations (one in each city) is expected to be completed in Pyrgos by 2026 and in Agrinio in the first quarter of 2027, allowing for the gradual commissioning of the network. The goal is to fully complete the projects by the first half of 2027.
Ioannina: Construction of the medium-pressure network is nearing completion; the LNG station has been technically completed and is now in the final stage of the permitting process. At the same time, construction work on the low-pressure network is proceeding at a rapid pace. Work is underway in the Ampelokipi area and is gradually expanding to other parts of the city. A total of 36 km of the network has been constructed. Two contracts have already been signed with industrial consumers, reflecting the interest in the city’s new energy infrastructure.
Preveza – Arta – Igoumenitsa: Construction work on the low-pressure network is in full swing. In the Preveza area, 6.5 km of low-pressure network have been constructed, and work is currently underway on Syrraku Street. Similarly, in Arta, work is being carried out on Kommenou Street, and 3 km of the low-pressure network have been completed. Furthermore, in Igoumenitsa, work has officially begun in the Graikochori area, marking the implementation of a major energy upgrade project for the city.
It should be noted that the seven areas mentioned above will be supplied through small-scale Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) infrastructure projects that ensure energy supply to areas remote from the national natural gas transmission system. Florina, Kastoria, and the Patras Industrial Area are the first three regions in Greece already supplied via small-scale LNG infrastructure.
It should be noted that last week, parent company Italgas announced its Strategic Plan for the period 2026–2032, which foresees investments totaling 1 billion euros for Greece.
These include projects to expand the network by 2,700 kilometers, which will increase the number of consumers served from approximately 650,000 in 2025 to over 1 million by 2032.
