The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces the results of the Construction Activity Survey for the month of March 2026. Specifically:
The volume of Total Construction Activity (Private and Public) in March 2026, nationwide, based on building permits issued, totaled 2,697 building permits, corresponding to 568,908 m² of floor area and 2,569,307 m³ of volume, representing a 22.3% increase in the number of building permits, a 40.7% increase in floor area, and a 38.0% increase in volume, compared to the same month in 2025.
The number of private construction permits issued nationwide in March 2026 totaled 2,662 building permits, corresponding to 557,463 m² of floor area and 2,473,520 m³ of volume, representing a 21.3% increase in the number of building permits, a 40.3% increase in area, and a 35.5% increase in volume, compared to the same month in 2025.
The number of public construction permits issued in March 2026, nationwide, totaled 35, corresponding to 11,445 m² of floor area and 95,787 m³ of volume. The share of public construction activity in the total construction volume for March 2026 was 3.7%.
Over the past twelve months, that is, from April 2025 to March 2026, the volume of total construction activity (private and public), based on building permits issued nationwide, totaled 31,078 building permits, corresponding to 7,112,414 m² of floor area and 34,225,118 m³ of volume. Compared to the corresponding period from April 2024 to March 2025, there was a 9.1% increase in the number of building permits, a 10.5% increase in floor area, and a 16.4% increase in volume.
During the same period, April 2025–March 2026, private construction activity nationwide showed a 9.3% increase in the number of building permits issued, an 11.3% increase in floor area, and a 17.6% increase in volume, compared to the corresponding period from April 2024 to March 2025. The share of public construction activity in total construction volume for the above period is 2.7%.
In the January–March 2026 quarter, total construction activity nationwide showed a 14.4% increase in the number of building permits, a 48.3% increase in floor area, and a 60.0% increase in volume, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025 (Table 5). During the same period, January–March 2026, private construction activity nationwide showed a 14.1% increase in the number of building permits, a 49.5% increase in floor area, and a 60.4% increase in volume, compared to the period from January – March 2025.
