Christos Dimas, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, met today with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, at the ministry’s headquarters.
Discussions focused on the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), with Mr. Dimas noting that India’s support for Greece’s participation in the corridor constitutes recognition of the country’s geostrategic and geoeconomic position, as well as its reliability as a key link in international supply chains and value chains. At the same time, it was emphasized that IMEC creates significant prospects for the further development of bilateral economic cooperation.
For his part, the Indian minister expressed strong interest in investment opportunities at the ports of Northern Greece, with the aim of strengthening the relevant infrastructure and utilizing it in the future as part of IMEC’s planning in the near term. The two ministers also agreed to establish regular channels of communication between Greek and Indian businesses, with the aim of developing new partnerships and boosting investment and bilateral trade.
Particular emphasis was placed on innovation and digital transformation, areas in which India possesses significant expertise. Furthermore, it was noted that the new international airport currently under construction in Kastelli could serve as a model case study for the application of modern digital technologies and innovative solutions in transportation infrastructure.
During the meeting, the shared conviction was reaffirmed that bilateral cooperation between Greece and India across all sectors has entered a new, particularly dynamic phase, while it was emphasized that there is significant scope for further strengthening cooperation in areas of strategic interest.
Special mention was made of the milestones that marked the revitalization of Greek-Indian relations, with the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to Athens in 2023 and the visit of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to India a few months later, which established a new framework for cooperation between the two countries.
