75% of Europeans believe that the European Union (EU) offers stability in an increasingly uncertain world, according to the results of the latest Eurobarometer of the European Parliament, which were published today.
The percentage is up by 8 percentage points compared with the autumn of 2025 and constitutes the second highest level of the last decade. In Greece, the corresponding percentage stands at 71%, while 28% disagree with this view.
Despite geopolitical uncertainty and growing economic concern, Europeans continue to value the peaceful, protective and cooperative character of the EU, while also recognizing the quality of life it offers.
Defense and energy among the top priorities
In an environment of shifting international balances, 74% of Europeans believe that their country's participation in the EU is beneficial. In Greece the percentage rises to 63%.
Citizens believe that the EU should focus primarily on defense and security (39%), followed by energy independence (35%), a percentage increased by 6 points compared with the autumn of 2025. In third place are competitiveness and the economy.
In Greece, competitiveness, the economy and industry constitute the top priority at 42%, followed by defense and security (37%) and energy independence (32%).
A stronger role for the EU in the face of crises
68% of Europeans believe that the EU should strengthen its role in protecting citizens from global crises and security threats.
In Greece the percentage reaches 81%, while 82% of citizens believe that the EU should have more means to address global challenges. At the same time, 92% of Greeks support the unity of the member states and the promotion of respect for international law.
At the European level, 83% of citizens say they are satisfied with their quality of life, compared with 63% in Greece.
For Europeans, the main factors of a good quality of life are physical and mental health (51%) and financial situation (49%). In Greece, first comes the ability to cover daily expenses (72%), followed by access to healthcare (68%) and physical and mental health (66%).
At the same time, almost three in ten Europeans (29%) estimate that their standard of living will worsen in the coming years. In Greece the percentage stands at 37%, while 46% believe that it will remain unchanged.
The primary concern is high prices
When asked about the priorities of the European Parliament, citizens place inflation, high prices and the cost of living in first place.
The percentage at EU level stands at 47%, up by 6 points compared with the autumn of 2025, while in Greece it reaches 52%.
The survey was conducted from 9 April to 4 May 2026 in the 27 member states of the EU, with a total of 26,421 interviews, of which 1,007 in Greece.
