The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) released the seasonally adjusted estimates of employment and unemployment for May 2026.
Specifically, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in May 2026 stood at 8.1%, compared to the upwardly revised 8.7% in May 2025 and the downwardly revised 9.1% in April 2026.
The number of employed persons reached 4,353,357, marking an increase of 20,712 compared to May 2025 (0.5%) and an increase of 18,654 people compared to April 2026 (0.4%).
The number of unemployed stood at 383,740, marking a decrease of 29,643 compared to May 2025 (-7.2%) and a decrease of 48,028 compared to April 2026 (-11.1%).
ELSTAT notes that individuals under the age of 75 who are not part of the labor force, or “persons outside the labor force”—that is, those who are neither working nor looking for work—totaled 2,979,634, marking a decrease of 24,552 people compared to May 2025 (-0.8%) and an increase of 25,121 people compared to April 2026 (0.9%).
