A meeting with the president of PASOK - Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, at the Ministry of National Defense (YPETHA) today, Thursday, following a request by the leader of the official opposition.
Following the private meeting, a detailed briefing was held in the “Kapodistrias” hall at the Ministry of National Defense on national defense issues and the operational structure of the Armed Forces.
The Reference to the “2030 Agenda”
During his meeting with Mr. Androulakis, Mr. Dendias emphasized the importance of keeping political parties informed about defense issues and the reforms currently underway.
“It is extremely important for us to ensure that all parties—and especially the official opposition—are fully informed about the effort to modernize and reform the Armed Forces, what we call ‘Agenda 2030,’” he noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that national defense issues are a matter of national importance and are not the “property” of any single government or political party.
Briefing by the military leadership
The minister also noted that the briefing on operational matters was conducted by the active leadership of the Armed Forces, led by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis.
Also participating in the meeting and briefing were the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, Antonios Oikonomou, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios–Eleftherios Kataras, the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Air Vice Marshal (I) Demosthenes Grigoriadis, the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis, as a representative of the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, as well as the Director General of the General Directorate for Public Relations and Information, Ambassador (ret.) Michael Spinellis, and the Director of the Fourth Branch of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, Major General Ioannis Korres.
The PASOK president was accompanied by Michalis Katrinis, head of the National Defense Committee; Dimitris Mantzos, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee; and Member of the European Parliament Yiannis Maniatis.
