ELAS is proposing a package of measures to resolve the explosive housing problem in our country, through a video posted by Alexis Tsipras on social media.
The party’s president, as he states, is fulfilling his commitment to give citizens a voice and is answering questions about housing, as well as the stress faced by young people who are still forced to live with their parents.
At the core of ELAS’s proposals, as Alexis Tsipras notes, is a package of five measures designed to ensure that housing remains “a right for all and not a privilege for the few.”
Specifically, ELAS proposes:
- The establishment of a nonprofit public agency to manage housing loans as well as public real estate. The goal is for properties that currently stand vacant and unused to be converted into social housing—affordable housing for everyone, especially young people.
- Tax disincentives for keeping homes vacant.
- A very high tax on the transfer of real estate to companies outside the European Union.
- Regulation and restriction of Airbnb, particularly in areas with high housing demand
- Abolition of the Golden Visa.
