The PASOK Member of the European Parliament issued a statement regarding his wife’s secondment to the Permanent Greek Delegation to the European Union following a report in the newspaper Demokratia. In it, he states:
Theodora Aivazoglou is a distinguished economist, a graduate of the University of Athens and the LSE with a degree in Economics, possessing advanced expertise and many years of experience in public administration.
Her secondment was carried out legally, following an official invitation from the Permanent Mission of Greece (PMG) itself, with protocol number 8002/12/22.2025, to address urgent staffing needs in the Economic Policy Unit, and with only the remuneration provided for seconded employees.
The call was issued due to the increased and critical workload facing the MEA in 2026, amid critical negotiations on the new Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028–2034 and Greece’s involvement in matters related to the European budget, economic governance, and fiscal policy.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance itself requested the immediate reinforcement of the Economic Unit with specialized staff, and Theodora Aivazoglou, along with another specialized official from the Ministry of Finance, was selected based on her absolutely necessary formal and substantive qualifications, through the prescribed procedures of the relevant ministries. A Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) was issued and published. It was also duly published on DIAVGEIA, contrary to what has been falsely reported.
The CV of Theodora Aivazoglou
Theodora Aivazoglou is a graduate of the Department of Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a master’s degree in decision science and operations research from the London School of Economics, a leading university in the field of economic sciences.
After graduating, she worked in the private sector in London and Athens and headed the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) Competitiveness Observatory. After successfully passing a civil service exam administered by the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP), she was appointed to the Ministry of Finance in 2004 and now has 22 years of professional experience at the Ministries of Economy and Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue.
He has served in key executive positions, such as in the Audit Directorate, the Operational Planning Directorate, and the Collection Directorate. He has participated as a representative of the Greek tax administration in European working groups and projects under the Fiscalis program, focusing on tax risk management, tax compliance in the digital age, risk analysis, audit targeting, and the management of overdue debts.
She has also served as a member of the Committee for the Out-of-Court Resolution of Tax Disputes. In November 2025, she was selected by the European Commission as a National Expert; however, she chose to accept the invitation from the Ministry of Finance to assist Greece in light of the difficult technical negotiations. She speaks three languages.
I am proud that my wife strives, alongside such a demanding professional career, to be both the amazing mother of our three children and a rare partner. At a time when women are called upon to prove every day that they can do it all, Dora is a role model. This is not a given. It is the result of strength, organization, and determination.
It is sad and revealing that women like Dora are targeted by men with fake degrees or nonexistent qualifications—men who for years were paid by the state because, according to their own claims, they were “handsome,” and who judge others by their own standards.
