Maria Karystianou attended today’s open discussion on “National Issues and the NATO Summit: 52 Years After the Coup in Cyprus,” which took place at 6:00 p.m. at the Great Athens Hotel (12 Veranzerou Street, Athens).
Speakers at the event included Konstantinos Grivas, professor at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Honorary Ambassador Pericles Nearchou, retired General Dimitris Kypriotis, Vasilis Fouskas, professor of International Politics and Economics at the University of East London, Dr. Sotiris Mitralexis, a scholar of Political Science and International Relations, and Dr. Keri Mavrommati, an expert in international maritime law, author, and legal scholar.
The discussion was moderated by Dimitris Panagiotopoulos, a professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a member of the Political Council of “Hope for Democracy.”
According to the organizers, the event took place at a time when Turkey is strengthening its position within NATO and in the Eastern Mediterranean, with particular emphasis placed on developments surrounding national issues and Cyprus, 52 years after the 1974 coup.
