Antonis Samaras launched an attack against Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Dora Bakoyannis through two videos he posted on social media, in which he is seen speaking with the director of his Press Office, Nikos Tsioutsias.
In his conversation with his close associate, the former prime minister rejects the allegations that his potential formation of a new party would deprive New Democracy of a majority, arguing that the responsibility lies solely with the government’s policies.
“A majority requires 37%. I told them to do 10 things, and they did the opposite. And that’s why New Democracy dropped from 40% to 20%,” he noted, arguing that he had warned the government about issues such as same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples, national issues, support for small and medium-sized businesses, inflation, scandals, and the justice system.
Later in the conversation, when Nikos Tsioutsias remarks that government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis has argued that if Mr. Samaras were to form a party, it would confirm that his expulsion from New Democracy was justified, the former prime minister replies sarcastically: “You know what that reminds me of? The arguments of the president of Edessaikos.”
In the second video, Antonis Samaras takes aim at Dora Bakoyannis, in response to her recent statements about him. “Do you know how many years have passed since she lost the party leadership to me? 17. You still haven’t gotten over it. Let her sort things out with her brother,” he says, while the post is accompanied by the phrase: “Dora, get a grip…”
