With characteristic delay, similar to that experienced daily by thousands of passengers at Greek airports, the government remembered to convene an emergency meeting for the chaos in flights and the increasing pressures on the air traffic control system, PASOK's announcement points out.
After seven whole years of governance, the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is once again attempting to resort to communication tactics, instead of taking responsibility for the failure.
At the peak of the tourist season, citizens and visitors to the country do not need more findings and theoretical plans on paper. The solution to the problem cannot come through new meetings, but only through a specific action plan, which has not been implemented, with full and exclusive responsibility of the government.
PASOK – Movement for Change has pointed out the problem in a timely manner and with absolute clarity. With an official parliamentary intervention and the submission of a relevant question, already since June 19, there was a warning about the impending deadlock. Instead of heeding the warnings and benefiting from the responsible stance of the main opposition, however, the government chose inaction. It let valuable time be lost, resulting in the situation at the airports deteriorating dramatically, exposing the country internationally and harming tourism.
The questions remain relentless and the answers must be given publicly and not behind closed meetings. The period of excuses has irreversibly passed. Citizens demand safety, consistency, and modern infrastructure. The government must, even now, stop the communication management and take responsibility for a system that is on the verge of collapse and is being held together thanks to the superhuman efforts of the staff.
