With the central theme "The Mitsotakis seven-year period - Seven years of lies, lost opportunities, corruption," the responsible officials of the Hellenic Left Alliance (ELAS) Fragkiskos Koutentakis (Finance), Dionysis Temponeras (Labor), and Theoni Koufonikolakou (spokesperson) gave their first press conference as a party.
Beyond the purely economic references, the ELAS officials, responding to a relevant question, left open the possibility of investigation after the elections of cases such as wiretapping, OPEKEPE, Tempi, through Parliamentary Inquiry Committees.
As to whether any responsibilities will be attributed to the current prime minister, they replied that ELAS's purpose is not a "criminal revenge" but the investigation of all controversial cases, as "unbelievable things happened here."
Regarding Antonis Samaras' move to appeal to the Supreme Court for his surveillance, Mr. Temponeras said that "we welcome Mr. Samaras, even if he is late", emphasizing that the country cannot go to elections "under the shadow of a Mr. Dilian."
The numerical data and comparisons, on which the negative assessment of the government term was based, are of interest.
According to these:
ECONOMY
- The country owes more today than in 2019. The "investment boom" is half house purchases, armaments, and European money—not factories and technology.
- 2 million people (19.5% of the population) below the poverty line.
- Taxes: VAT revenue 2025: +8.1 billion (1.2 GDP points) compared to 2019
- Income and property tax revenue: +10.6 billion (2 GDP points) compared to 2019
LABOR AND INSURANCE
- We work the most hours in Europe—for the purchasing power of 2019.
- Increase in average full-time wage 2019-24, 12.4%.
- Price increase 2019-24, 16.4%. Decrease in purchasing power, 4%.
- 2019: average wage in Greece 48.7% of EU average, 83% above Bulgaria. 2024: 45% of EU average, 17% above Bulgaria.
- Workweek of 39.6 hours when the EU average is 35.9. They legislated a 6-day week and 13-hour day.
- Pensioners: Increases 16.4% with inflation at 19.8%.
PRIVATE DEBT & FORECLOSURES
Loans did not disappear—they were transferred from the banks to the funds and servicers, even with a state guarantee. The citizen still owes them, just to a tougher lender. And because the protection of the primary residence was abolished, the bill now comes in the form of foreclosure.
- Total non-performing loans: 82.6 billion — 5.7 in banks, 76.9 in servicers
- Total private debt increased: 367 → 407.6 billion. Debts to EFKA/KEAO increased: +46% (35.4 → 51.8 billion)
- Foreclosures increased: 29,100 → 67,309 (+131%). Cumulative 2020-2026: 300,000. Suspensions for vulnerable: 560
HOUSING - The most expensive in Europe
- 35.5% of income goes to housing compared to 19.2% EU average.
- For poor households the percentage soars to 62.8% compared to 36.9% European average.
HEALTH
- Increase in the percentage of citizens from 7.5% in 2019 to 8.8% in 2025, who cannot undergo necessary tests due to cost.
- Public health expenditure remains stuck at 5.7% from 2019 to today.
ENERGY ENVIRONMENT
- Electricity became 50.6% more expensive compared to 2019 and we are the 4th most expensive country. Net energy cost: +11% above the EU while in purchasing power +40%.
- Energy poverty: 19.0% — 1st place in the EU (avg. 9.2%).
INSTITUTIONS & PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
- In Press Freedom, Greece is 86th worldwide—last in the EU.
- Rule of law (World Justice Project) 29th out of 31 countries (EU/EFTA/N. America).
- Corruption (Transparency International) 21st in the EU, 56th worldwide.
- Trust in government (OECD) 24%.
- Quality of Democracy: European Parliament resolution (7/2/2024) that "expresses serious concerns about threats to Democracy, the Rule of Law, and Fundamental Rights" in Greece.
JUSTICE - Slower for the citizen, more "rapid" on paper
- The government claims: "Decision in 386 days, 99% case clearance."
- The European Justice Scoreboard measures 740 days—worse than in 2019.
DEFENSE - Same project, 3.36 times more expensive
For the exact same upgrade of the 38 F-16 Block 50s, the country agreed in 2017 on a cost; in 2026 they signed the same project at a triple or more price—for aircraft that arrived in 1997 and will be delivered upgraded in 2033-34.
CULTURE
Of the Recovery Fund money for artists, only 1.6% was absorbed. That is, 470,000 thousand was absorbed and 27.5 million euros remained in the drawer.
